Advanced Arthritis Relief Protocol
We are one of less than 3 healthcare clinics in Southern California licensed to offer
The Advanced Arthritis Relief Protocol
The AARP program is the only FDA-approved, NON-SURGICAL treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, and shoulder.
It is a unique approach to treating osteoarthritis, effectively, permanently, and without surgery.
By utilizing a variety of state-of-the-art medical devices including digital fluoroscopy, viscosupplementation, platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP), stem cell therapy, custom engineered knee unloading braces among other treatments, are able to leverage the latest medical treatments to assist in your treatment and care.
At Palomar Spine & Pain, we strive to help our patients avoid surgery and regain your optimum function and quality of life.
What is Osteoarthritis?
Bones glide over one another because of healthy cartilage. The ends of bones are covered by smooth cartilage in a healthy joint. Together, they are protected by a joint capsule lined with a synovial membrane that produces synovial fluid. Cartilage, muscles, and connective tissue are protected by the joint capsule and the synovial fluid.
The surface layer of cartilage breaks down and wears away in osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis also leads to an increase in synovial fluid and growth of spurs out from the edge of the bone. Because of this, bones under the cartilage rub together, causing pain, swelling and decreased joint motion. The result is that the joint feels stiff and sore.
Taking an active role in the treatment of your osteoarthritis and in preventing additional joint damage is vital. Decreasing your risk of developing osteoarthritis is possible through specific preventive measures.
For this reason, if you suspect you have any form of arthritis getting the correct diagnosis and beginning treatment early on is important.
Where does osteoarthritis occur?
Osteoarthritis usually occurs in the weight-bearing joints of the shoulders, hips, knees, and low back. However, the neck, small finger joints, the base of the thumb and the big toe can also be affected among others.
Treatments that we offer?
What is viscosupplementation?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body produces naturally. As you age, you produce less hyaluronic acid, leading to the deterioration of your knee joint and less smooth mobility there.
Hyaluronic acid injections restore lubrication and provide a cushion between your bones so they don’t rub together when you walk. The increase in lubrication allows the joint to move better and decreases pain. The injection of hyaluronic acid may stimulate the body to produce more of its hyaluronic acid, which will further cushion the joint and make the effects of the injections last longer. You may achieve pain reduction for six months to 1 year following such injections.
What is PRP therapy?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is gathered from your own blood. Plasma is the liquid portion of your blood, composed of protein, water, and thrombocytes that aid in blood clotting and healing. The process of forming PRP separates your powerful platelets from red blood cells and concentrates them into an injection for healing.
When made into an injection, PRP (platelet-rich-plasma) can be used to alleviate joint and muscle pain, sprains, strains, and conditions like osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and even alopecia.
The process is very similar to stem cell therapy derived from bone marrow in which a specialist collects a sample of your blood and places it in a centrifuge. It is spun at high speed, allowing the plasma to separate from the red blood cells. The plasma layer is then carefully extracted into a syringe to inject into the injured or painful area.
The platelets release growth factors into the muscle, joints and other target tissue, encouraging cell repair and renewal
What is stem cell treatment?
Stem cells are undifferentiated cells produced naturally by your body. Stem cells can become whatever type of cell your body needs at a given point of injury. Adult stem cells were discovered over 40 years ago when researchers found that cells derived from bone marrow had the ability to form various tissues. Adult stem cells are early stage cells that, under the right conditions, are capable of developing into other types of cells and hold the potential to regenerate damaged tissue.
For example, when directly injected into areas of pain around your knee, these cells go to work, prompting the release of growth hormone and encouraging the development of new tissue to support an injured, inflamed knee joint.
AUTOLOGOUS ADULT STEM CELLS (ASCS) are being used to treat many types of chronic pain and degeneration. Currently doctors are treating shoulder, knee, hip, and spine degeneration, in addition to soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) and other bone related injuries.
